Dive (Collaborative Project)
Timeline: 3 months
Genre: Survival Game
Description: Dive is a project focused on the development of a 3D horror-themed survival game. The project main goal was to blend backgrounds, objects, and textures to enhance the player's experience. This was a group project which included three members; my role primarily revolved around modeling and crafting the map design.
Process and Challenges: In developing Dive one of our biggest challenges was to judge the correct scale for our world. During the planning, we decided that we would aim to create a sizable yet manageable environment so we could have time to make necessary adjustments to ensure a quality design. Throughout this process, I took the lead in crafting the environment, meticulously embedding corals, rocks, and other deep-sea elements to mimic ocean depths. I also paid special attention to the texture of the effects of the ocean currents on the ocean’s sand to enhance the game's realism.
Lessons Learned: A crucial lesson from this project was the importance of effective communication and file management. As we updated our game, we adopted GitHub, which significantly streamlined our version control and collaborative efforts. This tool was instrumental in keeping our team synchronized and efficient. Designing the corals and rocks proved to be a painstaking process, especially since I was just learning Maya. Despite the challenges, I worked hard with alternative sources of instruction and information and at the end, I felt that my creativity improved as I became more proficient with the software. The other members concentrated on the programming aspects and character development. Over time, we refined the user interface and other aspects that made the game more intuitive and immersive. This project not only it met my vision but it also provided a platform that we all used to enhance our skills. With Dive, I grew as a game developer managing a large-scale project with a strict timeline in a team environment.
